Stress less, live more.

The pressures of everyday life can lead to overwhelming amounts of stress. This is because of contributing factors such as tight deadlines, demands and frustrations. While small amounts of stress can improve performing under pressure and motivate you to give your all, working hard should not be confused with overworking. Because when you’re constantly running around in a panic, not only will your mind but also your body pay the price.

The Body
Skin problems, headaches, nausea, stomach problems, tense muscles, a rapid heartbeat or difficulty breathing are only a few of the symptoms that are related to stress and the effects it has on the human body.

The Mind
When it comes to the human mind, mental stress causes a person to change how they think and feel. You’ll find it harder to concentrate; you’ll be impatient and more emotional than usual which affects your over-all sleeping pattern.

If you relate with these symptoms or are constantly overwhelmed by the feeling of helplessness, just know that by making simple life-style changes you can learn to manage the stress in your life and reduce its harmful effects.

Change the way you stress
Firstly, take a look at what the major causes of stress in your life are and what triggers it. This can be anything from everyday events, major life changes or a combination of things. After you’ve recognised these causes, look at how you can respond to them differently. Remember to be flexible and to look for answers, talk to the people around you about your situation, be open to get help and plan for the next time you find yourself in the same stressful situation.

No time for stress
Time management also plays a vital role in reducing stress and helps you to focus on what’s really important. Try making a to-do list and merely focus on doing what’s on the list. Give yourself enough time to do your tasks and only focus on one thing at a time.

Set aside time in your day for aerobic exercise to ensure you build up your immune system and release feel-good endorphins.  Another form of exercise could include stretching and yoga as it helps loosen up tight muscles and helps you relax.

Other relaxation techniques include breathing exercises where you inhale as much air as you can through your nose. Slowly exhale through your mouth while pursing your lips together until you can feel your lungs emptying out. Repeat this breathing exercise 3-5 times to relieve tension. More stress- relieving tips include, learning to say no, reducing the clutter around you, taking lots of mini breaks and doing one thing that you enjoy for ten minutes a day. Whether it’s a hobby or thinking about what you are grateful for.
